Respect
James summed it up rather nicely, but here's my two cents.

This cruel joke occupying our White House was never amusing, and his betrayal of our values deserves punishment. I refuse to pledge allegiance to the flag, because I pledged long ago allegiance to the values our country stands for. I so wildly believe in our country that I went out as a Peace Corps evangelist. I served my country without killing anyone, except possibly with my cooking.
Even though I don't salute the flag, I still respect it. This greedy petty idiot betrays undercover operatives, keeps raising the alert color to distract people from his domestic betrayals, and has squandered fifty years of international reputation. We shouldn't have to wait for the elections to begin the process of reconciliation to the rest of the world.

Wow. That's all I have to say about that. I was outraged when the Dixie Chicks said they were ashamed that Bush was from Texas. Now, I am saddened to say that I am beginning to agree.
As was stated in the provided link:
"From the US Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8 (g):
The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."
I am OUTRAGED that the Commander-in-Chief of the United States and "Leader of the free world," yes I heard him called that they other day - even though the Cold War is over, defaced an American Flag.
A flag that has lead our soldiers on the battle fields throughout the world. A flag that has draped the coffins of the fallen heros. A flag that has been folded gently and handed to a grieving father/mother/wife/husband/child. A flag that has not been taken in battle and has stood its ground for what it believed was right.
A flag that has flown at half-mast to mourn the loss of American. A flag that has never known retreat.
As Americans we are suppose to lead by example. We are suppose to be able to look to the President as being a "model citizen." That has not been the case in the White House in sometime. It's not as easy as blaming the Republicans or Democrats. In all honesty, they are all the same. A few are out there striving to do the best they can for the People.
The Flag was desecrated. The attack on the U.S. Constitution is next. Bush is beating the drums against Homosexuals as he attempts to define what a marriage is. According to Bush, and supported by Pope John Paul II, a marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman. I'm sorry, but I always believed and have even heard in marriage ceremonies that a marriage was between two people in love and ready to announce their love to God (please take no offense if you believe in another diety or none at all) and everyone. Let's look at this "two people" bit. Last time I looked men were still people and if you have two of them, that makes two people. So, if two people (man/woman, man/man, woman/woman)fall in love, why should someone or a government that is below God (please see disclaimer above) have a say in who can be wed.
As the 2004 election near, I'm frightened with what the future holds. Who will the Democrats bring to the table?
I've ranted long enough. *steps off of soap box*
Glenn, thanks for providing the opportunity to at least get my opinion out there. I'm sure some may disagree, but it's America, and last time I checked the part of the Constitution that defines free speach hasn't been totally destroyed.
*HUGS and KISSES* Don't let the math get you down. CALL ME ... maybe I can help.
Love ya!
