Happy Tofurkey Day
I deserve this four day weekend, dagnabbit. I just finished cleaning up yet another giant pile of Bear hair off the floor, did some more laundry, and now I'm sucking on the coffee while watching Willy Wonka. Roald Dahl was quite the subversive, and I would imagine that he was a truly cantankerous man. I'm not sure which is scarier- his original racist Oompa Loompas from darkest Africa, or the movie midgets with orange paint. Personally, the midgets freak me out (it's the short pants). However, I loved reading the book, and I always wanted to be Wonka. Gene Wilder was perfect for the role. As he said at the end of the movie, so shines a good deed in a weary world.

If ever there was a perfect film--WILLY WONKA is it. So I'm confused as to how I should feel about the upcoming Tim Burton remake with Johnny Depp as the WONKster.
But after seeing EDWARD SCISSORHANDS again last week (first time since it came out!) I think Dahl's vision will be in good hands.
PS: Don't tell, but I always cry when Mr. Wonka gives Charlie the factory.
