The body politic
I'm torn over two of my favorite bloggers' opinions about the whole HRC debacle. I agree with Jimbo as I feel that we have to start locally, as homosexuals trodding in the sacred world of marriage became every redneck's nightmare.
However, I also agree with Palochi. I refuse to sit in the back of the bus, gays who voted for Bush should be put in chastity belts, and the majority cannot take away the rights of the minority.
Here's my take. Do my local thing. Come out to people, and educate people around me. Find organizations, maybe even HRC, that can represent our rights.

Although I'm completely fed up with the HRC right now, there was one point the new director made with which I agree. We need to put a face on the issue. Faces, per se. Doing stuff locally contributes to building that image.

But the HRC appointed as their new executive director the woman they hired to run their gay marriage campaign. And that was a miserable failure! And remember what her previous job was - President of the RIAA - those nice record companies who sue file sharers. I wouldn't give that woman the time of day, much less my money or emotional commitment.
I think the HRC has been so thoroughly corrupted by Washington politics and dreams of influence that it no longer can represent our interests or fight for our rights.

There's a saying: "Think globally, act locally." That's all anyone really can do on an individual level.
