More Lost than LOST
Every day has been spent on some beach. My ever gracious host David has taken me to all sorts of great beaches and views, plus I've just been strolling over to Waikiki's beaches for necessary sun.
Mmmmm, necessary sun.
We met some great Canadians while drinking on one of the first nights here, and David was hitting it off with a nice Vancouverite named Robbie. To give them a little space one evening after driving back from dinner, I opted to get out of the car and walk home. David pointed the general direction I was supposed to go, and I started doing my own thing.
My own thing is seldom a good thing. I ran into the ABC store (Hawaii's tourist bodega) to get some aloe for my recently burned melon, and then proceeded down the street I was certain would lead me home.
It didn't. Every damned street here has names like Kalawai, Mokakalawai, Hokamokakalaai, and Liluomokalakamaiwailala. Also, EVERY high rise in Waikiki looks the same, a sort of Brezhnev Soviet style that is actually quite nice inside, but indiscernable from the outside. It was late enough, I couldn't exactly call one of my friends and get directions.
I'm also such a badly organized person that I didn't think to write down David's address in order to have a taxi get me home. No, I'm a New Yorker now! We don't get lost, especially in some tiny town!
Well, the driving license is Texan, so I guess I can make all kinds of stupid choices, right?
I finally found the place after wandering for over an hour and a half, one foot slightly blistered from walking around in sandals. Got in the door, walked the dog, and went to bed. I now know exactly where he lives, by the way, although I still don't know the address.

The same thing happened to me when I visited Archerr last October. Except I got screamed at by a homocidal maniac.
