School update
Psycho gangsta boy? Put a lighter shaped like a gun against the A.P.'s head. Gone, transferred to another school. Crazy girl with crazy accusations? Parents ignored it, she's going to be transferred to another teacher.
The rest of the crazy kids? Still there. The rest of the good kids. Still there.
Me? Still there, but looking at other options.

The one with the gun-shaped lighter shouldn't be shipped to another school. He should have his ass tossed out in the street so he can't screw up kids in whatever poor school receives him.
Then he can either flip burgers in perpetuity or get his act together, get back to school and do it right. Either that or let the cops take him out of circulation.

Tossing him on the street won't do any good. Do we need more 14 year-olds out wandering the East Village at 3am, murdering bartenders and actresses? The child needs professional help...and is unlikely to get it.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this crap, G. You're a saint for even showing up every day and attempting to teach these kids. They'll be lucky to learn math from you, but luckier to learn what it means to be a good human being.

Agreed with MAK. The kid needs help which I doubt he'll get...at least in the near future but he needs it.
And yes, G, yer a saint.

St. Galicious, patron of frustrated educators and good facial hair grooming.
Hmmm... I'm kinda likin' it.
Y'know, my father knows the cardinal here in CHI personally. I'll give him a call later today to suggest it. My father, that is - I don't know the cardinal myself. At least, I don't remember seeing him at The Eagle or at any other place you think he'd normally hang out. The cardinal, not my father. If my father was at The Eagle, I'd probably remember that. I'd probably have to increase my weekly therapy sessions to several times a week if I saw my father at The Eagle.
Then again, let's just call JP 2.0 directly. Maybe it's something he could put on his agenda to think about while lounging around in that hospital bed all day, wasting the Catholic taxpayer's money when he really should be off blessing people and animals. Or canonizing gay schoolteachers. Or something like that.

Sister Mary Galicious, patron saint of thug-children, have mercy on us.

Bah, humbug. Yes, the kid needs professional help, but he doesn't need to be in some other school, ruining the educational experience for other kids.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. ;)

Just when I thought that I would like to teach at an inner city school... I would still like to trade you for my white bread world in Arizona. Think of the movie Truman and there is my school - right inside that bubble. Heaven forbid if they should find out that I am a homosexual. My students do not want for anything, nor do their parents except to have the teacher's head delivered to them on a platter.
I completely understand what you mean, it is a sad day when I am considering whether or not I should switch positions and start working at the nearest Home Depot.
