Bob Ross Lovin'
Everyone knows how much I love Bob Ross. I have no artistic talents, and some people would say that neither did he. However, his voice and paintings can drop my stress and blood pressure by 90 percent. I remember seeing some episodes of his show where his son was also doing paintings.
Wait.
He had a son? Really? This poster child for Thorazine was able to have sex? I really couldn't picture it for a moment, but then I realized I could. I could picture him and his semi-hippy wife in bed. She would be grabbing at his enormous hair, moaning. Now his famous comments have much more meaning.
Mmmmm, just perfect.
Nice and easy, nice and easy.
Steady.
Slow, steady strokes.
Mmmm, there's a river, gushing down.
Remember, there are no mistakes, just happy accidents.

FYI: Bob Ross was a Vietnam vet with severe PTSD. I'm pretty sure that his son was conceived prior to it all. He wasn't just some hippie/psycho on Thorazine.

That information was helpful, as I had no idea that he had been a vet. I just did a search myself, and he was in the Air Force for over 20 years (from 18-40 years old). Where did you find out about the PTSD? Did he begin doing painting as therapy, and was that why he was able to continue in the military for so long?
I have an extremely sick humor, hope I didn't offend. I really love his work and wish I had such an incredibly positive outlook on life. I honestly miss watching him on TV, as I think he was such a strangely positive person. His fascination with forest rats (squirrels) was disturbing, but I know his show helped a lot of people.

Oh oh, don't forget "happy little clouds" and "happy little trees"!!!
I suspect the sound person had to turn all the dials up to '11' to catch his voice - "OK, we're filming. NO SNEEZING on the soundstage for the next 30min. G'head Bob, knock yourself out."
One of my art profs and I chatted about him once. She couldn't fault his rendering of nature (his happy little trees were awesomely lifelike) but she wondered if he could paint beyond that subject and work from a subject.

Do you suppose he let his "special little friends" in on the action? I used to catch his show with my Grandmother after school whenever I would visit her. NEVER ONCE did I imagine a platoon of squirrels lined up to watch the Rosster knock the boots. Thank you for that.
