Breaking wind in the Windy City

Somebody mentioned some team won something that they hadn't won in, like, forever. I was so excited that I immediately purchased tickets to Chicago to celebrate. We leave on Friday.

I guess that many Canadians view Chicago as their Mexico, what with its balmy weather and dramatically southern latitude. At least, I think that is why Derrick's cool Canadian friends live there. This is the same couple that let me stay in their place on my summer roadtrip. They were out of town, so I still haven't met them, although their neighbors got quite a thrilling view of me due to a shower curtain malfunction.

What with the fun I've had drinking with his other friends, we'll see if full exposure is in the cards for this trip.

Thank heavens my boyfriend doesn't have a digital camera.

Obviously, I can't speak for ALL Canadians (that's the PM's job - where is he anyway???) but I feel confident in saying: No, we do not look at Chicago as our Mexico. No white sands. No pasty-white tourists bargaining (BADLY) for local trinkets. No rum punch!!!! For me at least, Chicago would be ... a way point.

No, darling, Cuba is our Mexico. Gorgeous sand beaches, pristine waters, the nicest, friendliest people in the Caribean.

Hi! Randy here, Derrick's cousin up in Toronto. This seemed like a good time to delurk.

I don't think there's a unitary Canadian opinion, on Chicago or on anything. Québécois might possibly see the Midwest as ,potential irredenta if they were insanely crazy nationalists, Torontonians see Chicago as alternatively a model or a rival (PDF format), and Winnipeggers are aware that their city was once called the "Chicago of the North". I'm not aware of any easily stereotyped Atlantic Canadian notions of Chicago; not enough of us have moved there.
