Dear Texas

I just wanted to thank the 3 out of 4 people in Texas who voted for Proposition 2. Thank you so much for encapsulating your hatred, bigotry, and fear into a neat little package!
I truly appreciate the feelings of shame I get every time I take out my Texas drivers license. I am so ecstatic that I own property there in Jeebusland, as I'm sure that with values like yours, my house value will skyrocket.
Oh, and I'd also like to send a big thanks to all the apathetic gays across the state. Apparently, the actual voter turnout was low enough that if certain gay districts in Houston, Dallas, and Austin had actually voted, the law wouldn't have passed. Good for you, this would make the drag queens of Stonewall proud.
You are #1 for death penalty executions, ,execute people more retarded than President Bush,, and are in the top ten states for divorce.
Truly wonderful. Really. Be proud of yourselves and your general slide into a golden age of ignorance and hatred.

Ugh. That's the type of thing that pisses me off. It's one thing to let people in another state vote for something, but if it was within their power to stop it and they didn't... that makes me even madder.

You hit one of my pet peeves right on the head--our fellow gays who don't bother to vote or take part in the process in any way. These same people bitch about what's being done to us in the political process, but ask them what they're doing about it and you'll get the same look my dogs give me if I make a funny sound.

Maybe Mexico will take Texas back...

I voted. My parents voted. My aunt voted. I called friend and family and pleaded. We already have 2 versions of the DOMA as state law. Now we have it in the constitution. Since it won by a "landslide," those elected officials are preparing to rally for another round. Adoptions? Well, that was defeated last time by my Senator and a member of the Texas House in the Houston area. Am I mad? Yes. I'm furious. Am I ready to tuck tail and run? Nope. I'm trying to set up a meeting with my Senator and House member to at least put a face to the many letters I have written and the phone calls I have made to their office. It's time "gay" had a face in their district. It might not be the cutest face, but at least it'll be out there. For those that didn't vote and those homos that said they didn't give a damn about marrage all I have to say is thanks for the kick in the crotch.

First of all, I'm sorry I don't read more regularly. Second, I'm REALLY sorry that this passed. Yeesh. Third, thank you for that cleansing rant. I read it several times. Fourth, you forgot to thank the Texans for reinforcing their own negative stereotype.
Uh... I think I covered it all.
smooches.

That's conservative Texas. You're as familiar with it as I am. I'm trying (trying!) not to fight hatred and ignorance with hatred and venom, though, as tempting as that is. It's tough; if I don't, the resentment I feel will eat me alive. By the way, why do you still have a Texas DL? (This coming from someone who refuses to give up her NY DL!) The NY ones are awfully nice...xoxo and hugs to you and Derrick.

you could always start using your passport as ID!! or as jen suggested above, get a NY one.
its about the only thing you can do at this point.
sadly,
it looks as if Texas will not be cured of its 'problem'.
