Geek Watch/Night Watch
Geek Night was amazing as always. Fifteen men all congregating to celebrate the tasty goodness of Jamie Bamber on Battlestar Galactica, plus Chinese food and beer.
Sometimes it amazes me that any geek is single, as geeks are repositories of pure sexual energy, just concealed behind a well developed brain. Hasn't anyone watched Revenge of the Nerds? They aren't exactly tan (spending inside time being brilliant), but their cuteness,, sweetness and bawdiness, fuzzy-ness, and charm make for a fun evening. There are numerous boys without blogs, which means they even have outside social lives. Very strange.
Saturday night I met up with my friend Simon, Michael, and the very cute Robocubs to watch Nochnoi Dozor (Night Watch). As Simon said afterward, it was the best Russian film in some time. However, that does not mean it was good. The creepy doll was only in one scene, the plot dragged, and most of the inside jokes were only for Russians. However, the protagonist's apartment was EXACTLY the same design as my apartment in Samarkand, and it was good to see regular, mind-altering Russian wall paper. We also had some excitement as three gang members decided to have a fight at the bottom of an escalator. Normally New Yorkers avoid fights like this, but when the stairs inexorably lead you to the fight scene, people suddenly become elaborately interested in the scenery. It didn't appear too alarming, although I did tell Michael that if bullets started to fly, I was using his body as a shield. That's what friends are for!

"Sometimes it amazes me that any geek is single"
::Sigh:: Well, I am becoming quite the minority at Geek night, aren't I? I think it may be due to my relatively low scoring marks on the "how much do you know about Stargate?" test.
PS Sorry it took me so long to find your blog! Of course you're "Galicious!" You're the tastiest math teacher I've met in a while ;)

And don't forget the equally cute Galicious was amidst our group. Duh!
I'll dispense with a review fo the movie in favor of a review of the venue. A warning for all NYers; avoid the 42nd Street theaters at all costs. For as much as the city thinks they've "cleaned" it up, it's still a way point for all things hoodlum and assholish. The very "gang members" who were fighting at the foot of the escalator also thought they were being real cute when they felt the need to hurl the new term "Brokeback" at us, even after we politely gave them our seats for better ones that G and his crew saved for us. Yes folks, you heard it here first even before I've blogged about it on my own blog..."Brokeback" is the new faggot slur. I'm sure you'll be hearing it a lot more. Another reason to despise that depressing movie.
And if those hoodlums weren't bad enough, we had to endure a disgusting drunk straight couple sitting directly behind us, and they wouldn't shut up until I shushed them. As is usual in this city, verbal or physical violence seems to be the only way most people know how to handle most situations. My shushing was met with a "yeah fuck you too!". But once I turned around and told the asshole fuck and his girlfriend that I was trying to watch a movie, they didn't seem to make much noise after that. I guess the jerk didn't realize the person directly in front of him was the one who shushed him.
As for the fighting anti-Brokeback hoodlums, I wish they fell down the escacaltor and broke all their fucking backs.

It's February, of course I'm pale. Wait until August, after I've spent a few weekends in the bushes on the beach on Fire Island. Then I turn a glowing shade of French Vanilla. Brilliant...errr, I don't know about that...but, thanks! smooch

Mmm....Jamie Bamber. Unfortunately last week's episode was the first in several weeks that did not feature Mr. Bamber half nekkid. :)
