Techie advice
We're having a problem at school with the computer lab. We have a file server and a bunch of workstations (Windows, zod help me). Can anyone suggest how to set the network proxies for all the computers from the file server? Also, how do we get certain websites to be listed under the favorites permanently, as they get reset every night?
Beer/dinner for anyone who can help me on this.

I wish I could help you, but I'm a *nix geek. Did you google for these answers?

May not be the best solution but you can install the browser on a networked drive on the file server. That way the configuration would be the same for all users. Not sure if performance would be impacted.

There are a couple of ways to accomplish what you're looking to do. What type of file server (Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003?)
You would use what is called Active Directory policies to get it done. With Active Directory policies, you can set things like the favorites in IE, you can keep students from saving files to the local hard drives, and make a standard desktop for all users.
There is also an administrative pack for Internet Explorer. That would help you customize ONLY Internet Explorer.
Either solution would require a little bit of planning. Don't you have an IT department at the school? I could do it...I'd need to do a little research, but I could do it. Call me if you need to...

for the Favorites one, you need to set up the Favorites in the All Users profile. If nothing happens at night that would otherwise erase them, they'll be there in the morning.... If you don't know what I am talking about, call!
