Here's the thing about Houston

D&Gatbrennans.jpg

As opposed to last time, I really enjoyed myself.

I loved seeing my aunt and uncle, it was great to see my sister and her husband, and we had a blast hanging out with Dagon Chris.

Derrick and I are slightly hammered in the photo, by the way. Notice my red face and popping veins. We were at an amazing dinner with the family. We also went to Hippie Hollow. More pics will follow.

SF Finale

19.jpg

Yes, the jet/car fiasco really sucked. The spectacular destruction of my
camera sucked further. Suckiness sucks.

It was all worth it, if weighed against the good times I had with friends, both old and new. I felt appreciated, comforted, and relaxed, which was exactly what I needed. Part of me is really terrified that I'm not ready for the new school, so being with friends and recharging the batteries was perfect.

I'm all about spas and massages on vacation, so I went with a guy referenced by my friend Jason over lunch. The massage was with handsome and spiffy Justin, who after giving a great massage proceeded to show me how he makes his comic books. Yes, he was also a comic book artist/writer. I'd never seen how someone drew one, so it was kind of cool how things get set up. I was so relaxed that I almost walked into traffic afterwards, but I would have just tumbled over the hood without injury.

I'm a big fan of Jeff from God of Biscuits, and it was fantastic to meet him (he is shorter than me, although I thought he would be taller than me). We were able to hang out with some of his friends, who then invited me to another set of friends' houses, and then I found out that my friends are friends with his friends, and friends of friends are friends now with me.

My new favorite guys start with Fred the plumber, who really is a plumber. He also has the largest pothos vine I've ever seen, and I saw it in all its glory. John is a reader of the blog, and I was really lucky to have met him- good guy, funny, and let me vent about school, which was really necessary. He also introduced me to Hangar 1 Vodka, which is both a good and bad thing. I had the chance to get hammered with John, Scott, and Michael (they live in a building with a Wonkovator) at a fun bar, and I almost sang karaoke, which is one of the signs of the apocalypse.

I also was able to hang out a bunch with Jessie, Reese, Shando, David, Dana, Matt, and Bruce.

Things were fun. I went to Muir Woods, across the Golden Gate bridge, and I now know just how much vodka I should avoid drinking. I met new friends, hung with old friends, and I did silly wasteful things like read books. It doesn't get better than that.

What fits you?

Derrick and I are together in Houston, and today we went with my family to this museum of funerals. These are coffins.

CHICKENSMALL.jpg

Redfish.jpg

My sister would like to be buried in a DVD player (body ejects), my bro-in-law would be a plasma screen TV, my uncle would be a hot dog with mustard, relish, and onions, my aunt would be buried in a giant green chile or a kitchen blender, and I would like to be in a coffee cup or a chocolate bar. I really want to be cremated, so maybe a coffee urn?

If you had a custom funeral coffin, what would it be?

Traveling took so long, I could have been in Hawaii

I better have burned out all the bad karma traveling to SF. Woke up at 3 am to get out of house at 4. There was no hot water in the shower, so I did one of those 'ooch, yikes' type of showers. Get to the subway to go to JFK on time, but the A was going local, plus all the way down Central Park West it was stuck behind a garbage truck. I was on the subway for almost 2 hours. Get to the airport at 6 am, plane should leave at 7:15, then there was a problem with the tail section. We left the tarmac at 8, but tail winds helped us get to SF basically on time.

What? No baggage for 45 passengers? Really? I'm one of them? Woohoo! I can wait another three hours for the next plane? How novel on an empty stomach! Oh, the car rental company doesn't have my reservation? Really? How exciting on an empty stomach? No, I don't want the cargo van. No, I don't want the SUV? I'll take a convertible. No? Of course you don't have that. Yes, I'll wait. Finally got to my friend Danapau, Matt, and Bruce's place at 2:30. I then killed one of their dogs and ate it.

Like I said, all the bad karma must be gone, right?

Packing

8pm: I'm going to bed, as I have to be up at 3am to get to my flight. Yuck.

I'm okay with the new rules on flights, as it really allows me to be the frantic clothes queen I am deep inside. Derrick is really good at packing a lot of stuff into tight spaces, and that extends to his suitcases. Since we've been together, he always packs my stuff into one carry-on suitcase, which can be nice for speed and lack of disappearances. Now that I have to check baggage, I can pretend to be Ginger from Gilligan's Island and go hog wild with the clothes.

Derrick is at Mother Courage tonight. If he saw my suitcase, he'd have a fit.

велосипедЬ

Can everyone read this title? It's 'bike' in Russian.

Nothing makes me feel more alive than not having to think of school. I mean, yes, I have to think of school, as I must move all those boxes back out of my place on Tuesday into my new school, plus school begins in about two weeks. Can we stop talking about school?

This weekend, I did whatever I had the energy to do, which usually excluded things past midnight. Friday I went to hang with the studs of Geek Night, with a promised appearance afterwards at Jerry's housewarming party for his new Barcelona friend. I had a great time watching things blow up on the big screen at Michael's place, but did not have the energy to then go to Jerry's party. I did my standard "I'm a big pussy" text message and went home to bed.

Saturday, I made gravy for the second time in my life. I'll write about that exciting event tomorrow while naked.

I also got my bike cleaned up, so I took a ride on my bike for the first time in over a year, and the first time ever in Manhattan. New York does have an amazing bike path on the west side of the island, although finding an entrance is a bit difficult up here in Harlem. Many hot guys were out, so I almost crashed multiple times.

I joined up with the Farmboys, JoeMyGod, and Cynically Optimistic Jeff. The Farmboys, being from the farm, smuggled in FOUR bottles of white wine by transferring them to empty Sprite bottles. Clever, clever Farmboys. Too bad I had just biked miles and began drinking white wine....

We parked ourselves near the disco skating area and proceeded to get our drUNK on. We had a great time, and other sexy men joined us. Someone had the bright idea of playing drunken tackle frisbee. I'm not sure if I tackled Jeff or the other way around, but I totally WHUPPED him, and he's a big un! I then had my wrestling butt totally kicked by one of the Farmboys, and we won't discuss that, as he is smaller than me (and the videos taken by other bloggers totally show that I LET him win, just to not bruise his ego. Yeah, that's it). Again, I was supposed to go out that evening to watch The Descent with friends, but was unable to muster consciousness past 8:30. I did my standard "I'm a big pussy" text message and went to bed.

Today I again went for another bike ride, as I was so stiff this morning that I could barely move. Get back on the horse, and all that. My butt bones are so sore, and I am going to buy a better bike seat. I went riding with my new friend Fuzzy Lubbock Chad II. We discussed boyfriends (his is also earning a doctorate), escaping from Texas, and sex in Texas. There's a reason sodomy laws of Texas go to the Supreme Court, don't you know.

I think that is enough for a weekend.

Blood Money

A teacher who occasionally comments on my site told me that summer school is blood money. I now know what she was talking about. Summer school finished yesterday, and I think my blood has boiled out of my body. The only real reason I agreed to work this summer was to help my old school prepare for the new year.

Today I rented a Zipcar to move my SIXTEEN boxes out of the building. It would have been better to move them on Monday, as my new school isn't open yet, but the old school is closed for asbestos removal all of next week. Now the boxes are filling up our tiny living room, and I can only take them to the new school on Monday. Poop!

On a final note, I was going to ask people's opinions of my new look, but not even a single person so far has noticed the change. When you have no hair on your head, you can't change much, but still!

I have time to grow something back for SF depending on input. Opinions?

Doggy Sittin'

Okay, I know somebody out there wants to do this. Derrick joins me on the Texas leg of this year's roadtrip Aug. 23rd - 27th. This older, but amazingly well behaved older lady needs someone to hang with her a few times a day.

bearbegging.jpg

We need someone either to stay in our house, or we would bring her over to your place. Either way, we will figure out a nice reward. Who is interested? Who can say no to her super cute face?

Update: Sam of Subway Subversive is going to take care of Bear.

Dreaming of my future car

Letters for Zac bought himself one of my favorite practical cars.

I've been thinking about cars a lot lately. Where some friends walk into signs because of hot men, I walk into signs because my attention is drawn to cars. I know cars, I love working on cars. I miss changing oil. I miss hopping up motors, throwing them on the dyno. When I saw Little Miss Sunshine the other night, the major flaw of the movie for me was the mechanic's statement. EVERYONE knows that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears in a VW are synchronized. Fools. I was also dying to fix the horn, which is an extremely easy repair.

If Derrick dragged me away from NYC, one of the only consolations for me would be ownership of a car. In my price range: Mini Cooper Convertible, Mazda 3/6 series, the upcoming VW Eos, Saturn Sky. Nothing else really interests me.

Oh wait. Two other, terribly sexy cars fascinate me and occupy my dreams. First, the Tesla Roadster.

tesla_motors_roadster_02.jpg

This sexy beast is 100% electric, 0-60 in about 4 seconds, 250 mile range, and super smart. Unfortunately, I would have to sell the house I own in Texas to buy it. However, this car shows what liars the big carmakers are. The car's cost is due to limited production. It is also super sexy.

The other car is something I would build myself.

042520061515519493.jpg

My dad and I built something similar when I was around 15. This version can be hopped up with a Subaru horizontally opposed WTI engine.

When I dream, I'm in a car shop. It's a good dream.

The importance of running water

Our water is on again. Yesterday at school, I helped move THREE HUNDRED boxes of materials from Staples. I drank four bottles of water, but never had to wizz (whizz?). All the way home, I was fantasizing about a cool shower. My pessimist side said the water wouldn't be on, my optimist side said the water would be on, and my crazy side said I could go on a killing rampage if the water wasn't on.

I walked in the door, rushed to the sink. Cold water? Yes! Hot water? Yes! I ripped off my clothes, threw them on the floor in the hallway, and jumped into my shower. I turned on the water, tilted my chest and face to get the first jet of cool water.

Someone really should remind me next time that the water usually comes out rusty and gross after repair work. Thank zod I was already filthy. After about two minutes, it cleaned up, as did I.
