My entry for death recipe of the year

Just like Matt, I crave something a little bit more interesting in my diet right now. Maybe it's a January thing.

My aunt Kathy, also a member of the bacon religion, just gave me the recipe. The only thing preventing me from making it RIGHT NOW for breakfast is my lack of an ice cream maker. I'll bring the ingredients, if someone here in NYC has an icecream maker.

Pecan, Brown Sugar & Bacon Ice Cream

Recipe included after the jump.

3 cups heavy cream
1 cup milk
1 1/4 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
4 egg yolks
1 cup chopped pecans
1 pound bacon, cooked until very crisp, blotted on paper towels and finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)

Combine the cream, milk and sugar in a heavy saucepan, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is hot and the sugar is dissolved.

Beat the egg yolks until smooth in a small bowl. Slowly whisk 1 cup of the hot cream-milk mixture into the eggs. Stir the warmed yolk mixture into the saucepan, beating constantly.

Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture coats the back of a wooden spoon, 6 to 8 minutes. Do not let it boil.

Strain the custard into a clean bowl, and cool completely.

Stir in pecans and bacon, and freeze in an ice cream maker, according to the manufacturer's directions.

Before serving, remove the ice cream from the freezer to soften slightly.

Makes 1 1/2 quarts.

I have an ice cream maker, but I'm not sure I could stomach this recipe. I'll just loan you the damn thing.

I just got an ice cream maker for Christmas. Who's your daddy?

Bacon and ice cream is just... wrong. Tasty sounding, but just wrong.

(Jeezus... a POUND of bacon in 1.5 quarts? Argh!)

I love bacon, but that just made me throw up in my mouth.

Be very careful when you temper those yolks. You want to do it very slowly.

Perhaps you know this, but I still have nightmares about you rinsing roasted peppers.

Sounds like something I saw on Top Chef... let us know how it goes!

Bacon and ice cream?! Yes, indeed wrong or....G - Are you stoned? ;-)

Throw in some Barbara's Bakery JalapeƱo cheezy poofs for extra zing!

Okay, at first it sounded gross, but I almost want to try this!!

You know my Midwest obsession with all things Bacon (intentionally capitalized!)

Bacon and ice cream in one recipe? Fantastic! All it needs now is some wine and you've got the perfect combo!

It's my first visit to your blog. I like! I also like your nose, which matches your face, handsome!

Ok, now I'm right there with you on the Bacon Bandwagon. I've even been known to eat a bacon and peanutbutter sandwich (don't judge me!), but bacon icecream?

What do you serve it like Mexican Fried Icecream and top it with a slice of ham?

We got an ice cream maker along with the deep fryer. But bacon in ice cream....well...

I've made bacon ice cream several times, though the addition of pecans and brown sugar only makes my culinary glands swell.

I am perhaps in love a little bit.
