I'm a nerd in many dimensions

I am just a high school teacher, so while I can nod sagely at many scientific discussions, I really have no idea what they're talking about. Thank goodness for my skill of nodding sagely. Superstring theory is one of those topics, which is why I'm happy that one of my fellow furry nerds found a site that explains the ten dimensions without being too childish or technical.

All Greek to Me!

Don't you ever say "I'm just a high school teacher" because you're more important than all the lawyers, investment bankers, agents, hookers, actors and bankers in Manhattan. You're the one charged with instructing the next generation.

As for "string theory" and "black holes" I think they just make shit up. (Ok, not really.)

Heh... Nerd... yes. Furry... no, alas. :) (And there's nothing wrong with being a HS teacher, I was one for several years too!) :)

I sometimes think no one knows anything about anything any more and we're all nodding sagely and hoping it isn't on the test.

Funny, I was asked to pull together a three day course (techno thing, won't bore with details). I told the VP that I'd be giving a diagnostic test in the last hour of the 3rd day. He had a fit.

VP: You CAN'T do that!
Me: Why?
VP: Because, well, (pregnant pause) you just can't. People will freak.
Me: God, if they can't retain enough of this crap for three days so that can parrot it back to me on the last day, why bother teaching them at all.

ARGH!

Apparently he's not furry. Who knew? Probably his boyfriend. For some reason, I thought he was furry. My bad. :)

LOL. Don't worry G. The "furry" comment got 26 people to click over to my blog. You people are so shallow. ;)

You think that's bad? I am an ESOL teacher. Since our classes are self-contained, we teach it all... including math. I don't think the people who run the joint really get it... ESOL teachers are special (you know what I mean)... we're language geeks... watching us teach Math must be pretty funny. The fact that I, who can barely leave a tip that isn't 20% (only b/c I double the 10%) sometimes teach Math to real, breathing students who need the skills... well -

that's scary!!!
