Viewing my blog as a graph
If I were to look back in the misty entries of the past as a data stream, I believe that I would find certain times trend lower for me emotionally. This time of May would be one of those lower points.
Things that make my spirits go down:
Sinuses.
Coughing.
Mother's Day.
Crazy, crazy students.
Students with sublimely thick skulls who have not retained a SINGLE concept from my math classes. They can quote the prices of thousands of sneakers, but can't recognize that vertical angles are equal.
Things that will eventually make my spirits go up:
Sinuses go away.
Coughing might give me abs, underneath the horrifying fat. If I could just have a vomiting flu, I might even feel good enough to take my shirt off.
Some crazy students will have moments of lucidity, and might even remember to bring pens to class.
Some students will eventually remember some topics under the unholy terror of Regents exams.
School will wind down, I'll review and improve over the summer, and I'll be on vacation.

I miss teaching and having the entire summer to relax. I love my job now and all, but having the whole summer was great. Now, I get half day friday's from memorial day to labor day...and i love that!

Did you ever teach at a high school?

I've always been jealous of teachers and their extended holiday.
Yes, Yes, I know that many put work into NEXT year through the summer. And I know many spend a portion of their hard-earned wages buying things for school that "they've never have room in the budget".
The closest I came was working in a university's IT department - during summer the volume of students was so low, it was almost like being on vacation. (And there was the summer some friends and I took our vacation in Fridays and spent almost every weekend at the nude beach down the coast. But that's another story.)

You might want to introduce flogging to your fellow students so they might be better at grasping the concept of arithimetic! D'oh! j/k!
Hope your sinuses has gone away... It's a good start on your list. xoxo

Wait a minute...coughing gives you abs? That's fascinating! I've learned something new today.
