Dropping the ball
For the first time in five years, I really am having a teacher's proper summer vacation, so I'm really sorry about the dearth of entries. Every summer until now had something, either university classes, my mom dying, or last year's horrifying summer school, so I've really just focused on chilling out and traveling. I went to New Hope with my friends John and David (Click here for photos on my Flickr page), where I got to slow the pace even further.
I read Harry Potter and about three other books so far. I've worked on my tan, gone to the gym, and hung out with friends.
Oh, and I also switched to a new, new job. Still in the Board of Ed, but an entirely new direction. I'm not leaving teaching, but it is still a new direction.

Terror from the Deep
I should be writing (as I promised) about math. However, I've in week two of math training downtown, so I'm not really in the mood to write/discuss more math.
I should be writing about my trip down to Atlanta. However, it is both sad, personal and still being processed, so I'll just leave the post of pics of donuts.
I should be writing about the FABULOUS and fun birthday super-yummy dinner for Kate-who-hates-birthdays that we attended Sunday eve, including great food, a promised walking tour of Harlem, and me mistaking cock for cop/breaking into hysterical laughing.
I should be writing about my new gym routine (week two) and the fact that because of arm lifts, I can't access anything stored higher than shoulder height. I should also take before pics, so maybe I can have after pics.
I could even post a picture I took in the park the other day. Okay, I will post it. I like this pic, as he was cute and airborne. Click to embiggen.
I could, nay SHOULD write about those things. However, I can't function until someone helps me with THIS:

This is X-Com, Terror of the Deep- a game from the 90's that ran on Windows. I loved it, and I've been craving hours of playing it. Graphics were terrible:

It doesn't matter. I was so addicted to it, as it was suspenseful and fun. I found a place online that sells it for $5. Done. Downloaded. Studly Tom gave me Virtual PC for my powerbook Mac. Downloaded, and I'm ready to play my game. WHAT!?!?! I still need a version of Windows OS? Dagnabbit!
What I need from you, dear beloved friends, family, and readers: I need Windows 3.1, 95, or 98 Windows OS CD's for installation. My computer neither wants nor is capable of running Vista. If anyone has these, I'm willing to pay in either cash, dinner, beer, or whatever else (fixing a car, killing an annoying person, terrorizing children, whatever).
PLEASE HELP MY GET PAST MY FIXATION SO I CAN BLOG AGAIN.

Math Monday
What was my latitude and longitude when I went to this store?
I briefly visited this location after being with family. I have to say that my favorite was the glazed sour cream donut, because I'm sure I got my daily dose of calcium. I promise I'll write more about this weekend later.

The D of C

RIght now Greyhound has an internet special for 35 ROUND TRIP, so I couldn't afford not to go. The outgoing bus was empty, so I was able to really stretch out. I stayed at our friend Holly's place, so I was a skip and a jump away from the Capitol.
Of course, I got to hang out with various and sundry friends and bloggers.

Tom had his friend Luke in from out of town, and we had a lovely night, even discussing with a woman how men shouldn't twist nipples like radio dials. I explained to her that straight men were trying to listen to sports stations. Tom is really fun to hang out with, as he is ALWAYS enthusiastic. Seriously, I want him around as a cheerleader next year.

I also finally met WanderTos , who is a fellow educator, so of course we drank beer and talked education. Thank goodness my wonderful friend Athena joined us, otherwise we would have begun writing lesson plans. Athena is truly a goddess, or at least she was to me in Uzbekistan. She was the cool, experienced Peace Corps volunteer when I first arrived in Samarkand, and we often would hang out.
I didn't get to see a certain blogger, but he should know that I'm stalking him.

Finally, I had lunch with Sean, but he was too hot and charming for my digital camera.

I did something in DC I hadn't done in years- be a tourist. I was often alone, which was great, especially so none of my friends could have witnessed my devouring of a super yummy salmon and roasted tomato stuffed waffle at this Belgian restaurant. What? Mayo with frites? What? Beer with breakfast?!?! You betcha.
I spent a lot of time at the Smithsonian, which of course, was named after Mr. Smithson. He's buried in the main building. Right here:

At the Arboretum, they had a blooming corpse flower. Super fun, super smelly.

I wasn't terribly impressed by the new Native American Museum, as it is long on great views, short on actual stuff. However, I did find a possible cool tattoo:

I like the geometric complexity, plus the character is a historical character named I'itoi, and he was a teacher, creator, and elder brother to the Tohono O'odham tribe, which is from Arizona. I was born in their area, so it has lots of cool connections. The image represents their journey through life, seeing what is ahead, and choosing which path to follow. Cool, huh?
Finally, I have reached new levels of nerdiness. I got a libary card for the Library of Congress. It is free, and once you get it, you have access and can request ANYTHING, basically. It is so cool, and I went to their cartography/maps collection. I got to see the real globes from the 16th and 17th centuries, plus all sorts of other nerdy historical and modern maps.

Heh. It says "rim."
All in all, it was a really fun trip. I was able to hang with quite a few good friends, met some new ones, edified brain cells, and then killed those brain cells with drinking.

Sign from Last Day of School
On the very last day at school, we had a barbeque. I was a bit worried about the buns.

Math Mondays
I'm in DC, having a great time. Here's a quick math set up.
There were three Indian squaws. One slept on a deer skin, one slept on an elk skin, and the third slept on a hippopotamus skin. All three became pregnant, and the first two each had a baby boy. The one who slept on the hippopotamus skin had twin boys.
This goes to prove that the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.
Given to me by my aunt in England.
