Derrick and I went somewhere for his birthday
School starts back on this Thursday, even though I'm not assigned to just one school. Rather than work at a school that was just listed as one of the top 50 in the city, I chose a rather nebulous new task involving a rather large grant aimed towards math in Harlem. I'll be working with quite a few schools, going through a lot of new training myself, although I will still maintain my status as just a teacher.
Derrick and I went with our friend David to New Hope. Derrick had one of these:

Lucky Derrick, 2 tasty treats for his birthday! Good luck with the new teaching project. If you teach in the bathing suit, you'll keep their attention, though I wouldn't be paying attention to the blackboard.

My younger sister is 11 months younger than I, so for about a month we are nominally the same age. This probably doesn't apply to your relationship with Derrick (I don't know, of course), but as the older sibling I had to be nice to the younger one. After a while I figured out that for that month, I was no longer "older," and we developed a tradition of my wishing her a happy birthday by telling her to watch out, because we were now the same age.
Happy Belated, Derrick, and welcome back to the system, G! Are you a Tweedie now? Guess we missed having a summer rendez-vous, ah well. Diving in for another school year of fun, sweetness, stress, and chaos.
